Slide 45: How readily available are deuterium and tritium? Deuterium can easily be extracted from seawater, where 1 in 6500 hydrogen atoms is deuterium. This water is known as "heavy water." Tritium can be bred from lithium, which is abundant in the Earth's crust. Thus, the fuel for the fusion reaction is considered inexhaustible and very accessible.
