The International Symposia on the Science and Technology of Light Sources have been held regularly since 1973 and provide a unique opportunity for the worldwide community of engineers and scientists from the lighting industry, research organisations and academia to meet, present and discuss their work on light source research and development. LS-symposia are designed to be both an opportunity to hear of the very latest and most exciting developments in Light Sources from leaders in their fields and, importantly, to provide many opportunities to meet personally with other delegates to discuss in detail work in areas of shared interest. The 10th symposium in the series, LS:10, will be held in Pierre Baudis Convention Centre in Toulouse (France) from July 18th to the 22nd, 2004. It is being organised by CPAT (Centre de physique des Plasmas et de leurs Applications de Toulouse), the European COST-529 Network (Efficient Lighting for the 21st Century), and an International Committee; all of the organisers are dedicated to continuing the special friendly ethos and high standards of the meeting established during its 30-year history. The conference will start on Sunday July 18th afternoon with a Keynote Invited paper given by George Craford (Lumileds Inc) and ends on Thursday 22nd noon. A visit of Airbus factory is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. The meeting features plenary Invited Lectures, orally presented Landmark Papers, and multiple Poster Sessions. As a matter of policy no parallel sessions are scheduled during the symposia. The papers (Invited, Landmarks and Posters) presented at the Symposium are anticipated to fall within the following general categories:
This list is not in any way meant to be exclusive; the guiding principle for acceptance is that it is related to the science and technology of light sources. Accepted papers will be included to the conference proceedings and should be presented as posters. ISC will select about 30 of them for a 15 minutes oral presentation (Landmark papers). All accepted papers (Landmark and Contributed) presented during the conference, are eligible in extended form for consideration, in a special issue of J. Phys. D.: Appl.
